How to Play Lumps, the Elf Coal GameTM
Object of the Game:
Score the most points with each roll and be the first to score 100 points.
Scoring:
To score points, you must roll the same number on two or more dice. If you roll a pair, you get points equal to the number shown on the dice. Example: a pair of 6s is worth 6 points. A pair of 3s is worth 3 points.
For each additional die you roll with a number that matches your pair, you get points equal to that number. Examples: three 4s is worth 8 points…4 points for the pair and 4 points for the third 4 rolled. Four 5s is worth 15 points…5 points for the pair and 5 points for each additional five rolled.
Game Play:
Start your turn by rolling all 8 dice. Choose at least 4 dice to keep and then roll the remaining dice again. On your second roll, you must keep at least 2 more dice. Make a final roll with any remaining dice. Record your score and the next player goes.

Once you decide to keep a die, you cannot re-roll it.
Example Round:
Roll 1: You start your turn by rolling all 8 dice. Your roll a pair of 4s, a pair of 5s and a 7, 3 2 & 1.
Roll 2: You have to keep 4 dice from your first roll so you hold your pair of 4s and 5s and re-roll the rest of the dice. You roll a 7, 3, 8 & 5.
Roll 3: You have to keep two dice from your second roll. The 5 matchs your pair of fives, so you keep it. Then you decide to hold the 8 since it is the highest number. You make your final roll...
What luck! You rolled another 8. Your final score is 4 points for the pair of 4s...10 points for the 5s (5 points for the pair and 5 more points for the third 5), and 8 points for the pair of 8s. A total of 22 points!
Winning the Game:
Players continue taking turns until the first player scores 100 or more points. This player wins!
OR play elimination style. When the first player scores 100 or more points, all players who haven’t had their turn that round get one more turn. After all players have had the same number of turns, the person with the lowest score is eliminated. The remaining players play another round and add their points to their existing score. At the end of the next round, again, the player with the lowest score is eliminated. This continues until only one player remains…this player is the winner.
Bonus Scoring:
You can also score bonus points for rolling all odds or all evens, rolling six or more numbers in a row (e.g. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6), or rolling six or more of the same number.
Solitaire Play:
Lumps solitaire is a challenge to see how many rolls it will take you to reach 100 points. 2-3 rolls = champion level. 4-5 rolls = expert. 6 or more = novice.
Rule Variation:
If a player uses all dice to score points (e.g. 4 pairs or all odds), they get to roll again and add the additional points to their score. First player to 100 wins!
